Travel to the Pro Football Hall of Fame

The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio pays tribute to the talents and triumphs of pro football's greatest stars.

The National Football League awarded the site for the Hall of Fame to Canton in 1961. Canton was an obvious location: the American Professional Football Association, later renamed the National Football League, was founded in Canton on September 17, 1920.

The Canton Bulldogs were an early-day pro football power, even before the days of the NFL. The team was also the first two- time champion of the NFL, in 1922 and 1923.

Groundbreaking for the original construction took place in 1962 and the Hall opened its doors for the first time on September of 1963.

Four expansions have been completed over the years. In addition, the exciting progress is being made every day at Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village, an $899 million mixed-use development of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's campus, under way in Canton. It will be the first-ever sports and entertainment "Smart City".

The Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium hosts three main events of the annual Enshrinement Week: the Hall of Fame Game, Enshrinement Ceremony, and the Concert for Legends.
