One of our favorite destinations is the Florida Panhandle, and over the years we have stayed on many area hotel and condo properties.
View of the bridge at Destin |
Our first visit to Destin was in the late 1950s, and the change and development there since then has been staggering.
Today, there is lots to do in Destin, with its world famous deep-sea fishing fleet. The beaches are white, and the water is spectacular for swimming and other water activities.
And the shopping! Multiple shopping developments and major shopping destinations such as Bass Pro and Silver Sands Outlets provide hours of fun!
Hundreds of restaruants provide every cuisine you might want. One of our favorites is the Back Porch, right on the beach ... fine seafood and a great dining experience every time!
We also consistently vist Sara K's Gourmet for take out food ... her crab cakes are the best, and the chocolate deserts are fantastic! It is located in the shopping center at the corner of US 98 and Hutchinson, near Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and BestBuy.
A number of annual events offer fun for residents and visitors alike, such as the Destin Seafood Festival and Gumbo Contest and Silent Auction.
View from Destin's East Pass Towers condos to the Gulf of Mexico |
One of our favorite lodging destinations is the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort. We've stayed "beachside" several times overlooking the green waters of the Gulf of Mexico, in Beachside I, Beachside II, Westwinds and the Sandestin Hilton.
We've also enjoyed our stays at other Sandestin resort properties such as Beachwalk Villas, still a close walk or bike ride to the beach and the Sandestin Market Shops.
And we regularly shop at the Village at Baytowne Wharf and the new Grand Boulevard area. Sandestin: A great destination, year-round!
On other visits we have enjoyed the amenities at the condos at East Pass Towers. It is quiet, with incredible views of the bridge, fishing fleet, and brilliant sunsets.
We are looking forward to our next trip to Destin!
